Church of Santa Clara
The Santa Clara boarding house is located right in front of the convent of the same name, which preserves the ogival Gothic-style church from the second half of the 14th century, with an important set of Baroque altarpieces. Located outside the walls, on the so-called Camino de Castilla, it also gave its name to the Puerta de Santa Clara, one of the five entrances of the old wall, together with the Puerta de Trabancas, in the Plaza de la Herrería, the Puerta de San Domingos, in the convent of San Domingos, the Puerta de Santa María la Grande, in the Basilica of Santa María la Maior, and the Puerta del Puente, in the Puente del Burgo.
Shield in the Plaza de la Verdura
The most representative squares of the city take their name from the trade that was formerly carried out in them: the Herrería , the Verdura , the Pedreira , where the Pazo de Mugartegui is located, headquarters of the regulatory council for wine with the Rías Baixas denomination of origin, or the Plaza de la Leña , with a 16th-century stone cross and the central buildings of the Pontevedra Museum , are of great interest to visitors, both for the animation of its terraces and for its incomparable setting.

Atlantic Islands National Park
The archipelagos of Cíes, Ons, Sálvora, Cortegada and the sea that surrounds them form the contrasting landscape that characterises the Maritime-Terrestrial National Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia. Under its waters are preserved some of the most representative examples of Atlantic marine ecosystems, which treasure a great biological wealth.
Its location, opposite the Rías Baixas, creates a natural barrier to the ocean that accentuates the estuarine environment of the estuaries. In the terrestrial environment, the dune systems, the cliffs and the gorse and heather thickets stand out. In the marine environment with rocky bottoms, the communities of brown algae forests (Sacorhiza polyschides and Laminaria spp) are important, providing shelter for a wide variety of living beings. The marine currents deposit the sands in the most sheltered areas which, together with the important Mäerl beds (made up of the remains of calcareous algae), create a mobile substrate environment to which living beings, such as bivalves that bury themselves so as not to be carried away by the currents, must adapt. This marine wealth of the park is also protected by the OSPAR convention on the protection of the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic.
